Competitor Information


Registration

All competitors must register online and pay by Wednesday January 30th. There will be no signups accepted after Wednesday. Liability waiver may be completed for both skiers and riders who registered online before the competitor meeting on Saturday. Liability waiver must be completed for both skiers and riders who registered online before the competitor meeting on Saturday, February 2nd. If you do not have a signed waiver, you will not compete. Written parental consent is required for participants under 18 years of age. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration.

During the registration steps, skier name, rider name, horse name, team name, etc. will be asked. If you are registering multiple teams, then there is an "add another registrant" button which will allow you to add another team with skier name, rider name, horse name, etc.

Read through and familiarize yourself with the Regulations & Rules prior to the Friday night liability waiver signing party. Please note that horses can be entered in two teams and skiers can be entered in four teams. Open and sport horses and skiers may not cross enter into any other division. Cross-entry between the Novice and Junior divisions is permitted. 

If you are a skier or rider and looking to find a teammate, feel free to post on our Facebook page with your experience and division. Otherwise, stop by the Friday night registration party — there are always riders and skiers looking to pick up an extra pull for the weekend. 


Team Competitors Packet

Below is the GVSJA liability waiver, team registration form, and the rider/horse/skier bio form for the announcer. Special kudos will be given to teams who complete this along with their online registration. These forms will be available on Friday night at the Competitor's Party at the Rocking R Bar and all must be completed before the race starts on Saturday morning. If you pay your entry fees online, please bring a copy of your receipt with you.

Divisions

  • Pro/Open - $160/team prior to January 16th, 2019, $200/team January 17th-30th, 2019
    unlimited teams
    Pro/Open teams are considered to be the highest skilled competitors with the fastest horses. A team consists of horse, rider and skier. Horses and skiers in the Pro/Open Division may not cross-enter into any other division. Sponsorship money will be added to the payouts in this division. 
  • Sport - $120/team prior to January 16th, 2019, $150/team January 17th-30th, 2019
    limited to 40 teams
    Sport (Amateur) teams are considered to be intermediate level skill participants riding horses that may not be fast enough to be in the open class.  A team consists of horse, rider and skier. Any horse winning 1st place in this class twice and less than five tenths of a second off of the third place time in the Pro/Open Division must move up to the open class for the following years event.  Any skier winning 1st place in this class twice must move up to the open class level for the following years event. Horses and skiers in the Sport Division may not cross-enter into any other division. 
  • Novice - $50/team prior to January 16th, 2019, $80/team January 17th-30th, 2019
    limited to 30 teams
    Novice teams are considered to be beginning level competitors riding horses that may not have speed enough to be competitive in the open or the sport class.  Any horse that wins 1st place in this class twice must move to a higher level of competition for the following years event.  Any skier that wins 1st place in this class twice must move to a higher level of competition for the following years event. Horse and skier may not cross enter into the Sport or Open class, but can cross enter into the junior class. 
  • Junior - $50/team prior to January 16th, 2019, $80/team January 17th-30th, 2019
    unlimited teams
    Junior teams are novice teams and considered to be beginning level competitors riding horses that may not have speed enough to be competitive in the open or the sport class. Both the rider and skier must be age 16 or under as of January 1st, 2017. Horse and skier may not cross enter into the Sport or Open class, but can cross enter into the novice class.

After some consideration due to the huge turnout in previous years and in an effort to make sure that we don't run out of daylight, we are going to limit the number of teams in each division. Please register online to ensure that you have a spot for your team. All of the division have filled in previous years.

Online registration and payment: A "team" includes the entry fees for the skier, rider, and horse. We are not accepting individual competitor payments. 

Please note that horses can be entered in two teams and skiers can be entered in four teams. Open and sport horses and skiers may not cross enter into any other division. Cross-entry between the Novice and Junior divisions is permitted. 


Payouts

We will be paying out 100% of competitor entry fees across the Open and Sport division and there will be additional prize money added into the Pro/Open Division. 

  • Placements in the Open and Sport division for the combined Saturday/Sunday times and will be split 45% to the rider, 45% to the skier, and 10% to the horse. 
    • Sport will pay 83% of total division entry fees.The additional entry fees will be added to the Open division payouts. 
  • Placements Open and Sport divisions will pay six places and will be paid: 40% / 25% / 15% / 10% / 6% / 4%
  • Buckles for both the skier and the rider will be given to the first place team in the Open, Sport, Novice, Junior divisions. 
  • The Novice and Junior divisions will not pay out any overall cash prizes.
  • Saturday/Sunday day-money: the single fastest time in the Open, Sport, Novice, and Junior division will win back their entry fees, based on entry fees prior to January 17th ($160/team for the Open division, $120/team for the Sport division, and $50/team for the Novice and Junior divisions), 50/50 split between rider and skier.  

Competitor Insurance & Skijor America Membership

Competitor insurance will be offered to any skier or rider in the Novice, Century, Junior, Sport, or Pro/Open divisions through Skijoring America. Insurance is not mandatory or required but available to competitors who wish to purchase it. Insurance can be purchased: 

  • Skijoring America Membership: $55 membership annual fee. This would include competitor insurance coverage at all skijoring races, member or non-member, for the duration of the 2017 season. The Skijoring America membership also includes eligibility for year end points and prizes in the Pro/Open and Sport division (bases off of placing in all skijoring races, member or non-member). 
    • Horse memberships: $15 lifetime. Eligibility for year end points and prizes in the Pro/Open and Sport division (based off of placing in all skijoring races, member or non-member). Insurance for horses in not available. 
  • Non-Skijoring America Members: $30 one time race fee for non-member competitors (skier or rider) in any division. This will only cover the competitor at the 2017 Montana Classic.
  • Deductible: $500

Please follow this map to the horse trailer parking and park in the direction of the arrows. Parking lot can be accessed from Tschache Lane. From the fairgrounds, go west on Oak St., take a right on Davis Ln. and a left on Tschache Ln. Only horse trailers will be allowed in this lot.
